DAKboard OS Touchscreen Support Available!

We’ve had many requests over the years for touchscreen support and now DAKboard has it in our CPUs! Our team has completed support for touchscreen setup on the DAKboard OS for the Raspberry Pi (v3.41) and the Orange Pi (v103.41).

Here’s how it’s working and what we’ve tested on so far:

The OS allows you to complete the WiFi and other configuration setup on the screen itself and supports orientation change for the touchscreen matrix. You no longer need to setup your device to your WiFi using the DAKboard Hotspot and your phone/computer. If you change your WiFi or move locations, you can update the WiFi directly on the touchscreen.

This enhancement was designed for touchscreens that support linux and use a USB connection to interface with the Raspberry Pi. Our team specifically tested this with the Viewsonic TD-2465, which can be used as a table top or wall display with a VESA 100mm mount. We’ve also tested a touchscreen frame which can be added to 24″ monitors, such as our V2 wall display.

Here’s a list of what can be interacted with via touch on DAKboard screens at this time:

  • Scrolling calendars that show multiple months
  • Tap events to bring them to the forefront when there are multiple in weekly calendars
  • Reviewing and checking off list tasks (with Todoist and Google)
  • Interacting with videos on the device
  • Interact with button blocks by tapping the screen
  • Using screen buttons to switch from one screen to another or navigate to other URLs
  • Start and stop timers on the device

Our team is continuing to work on developments to make the OS and product even better for touchscreen support over time with the goal of providing an all-in-one solution soon!

Other Recent Enhancements

Weatherbit users can now add the option to show multiple alerts when facing severe weather. You can set your block to show “Most Recent” or “All.” Note that this is only for custom screens.

The reset button for the Countdown/up timer has been improved for simplified use.

Thanks!
